Golden Milk Recipe

I am an herbalist so I understand the importance of using herbs and spices to help with health issues. I have been having swelling issues in my bum knee recently, thanks to an office job, and it's been super painful. I have good insurance but I wanted to do some homeopathic remedies before I went to the clinic.

Now you're probably wondering where herbalism comes in. I know that warming herbs and spices are really good for helping with swelling and blood issues so I thought about how I can incorporate warming herbs into my daily routine. I came up with the idea of drinking golden milk every day because it has a ton of hot spices and it's delicious.

Before we jump to the recipe we need to discuss what warming energetics are. This will be a very quick herbal lesson for you. I plan to go more in-depth with a post later about herbalism. Energetics are used as a way to describe a person's body and how herbs will react to a certain type. So if you are constantly cold you might try warming energetics to get your blood flowing. If you are like me and get warm easily then cooling herbs are great. This is something most herbalists will talk about but a lot of herbalists will differ on herb energetics based on their own research.

Now that we've talked about what warming energetics is, let's discuss the spices in golden milk. Tumeric is fantastic as an anti-inflammatory spice and can help increase blood flow. It's great if you suffer from swelling and blood clots. In order for our bodies to properly absorb the benefits of turmeric, you need to add a catalyst. The perfect catalyst is black pepper since it's also a warming spice. Word of caution though, if you are like me and have a hot constitute, consuming too much turmeric can have adverse effects on the nervous system so make sure you only have one glass a day.

Another beneficial warming spice is cinnamon! This spice is not only warming but used as an antidiabetic. This means it helps regulate your blood sugars. But just like all other herbs and spices, it is important to note that too much in a day can cause irritation to your kidneys. Again, just limit how much you drink in a day.

The other spices used in golden milk are great warming spices too but I mostly use them for flavor more than anything. Ginger is great for promoting circulation as well.

The spices in golden milk are warming and help to increase blood flow which can help reduce inflammation. This is exactly why golden milk was the perfect solution to my knee problems. I've been drinking it for over a week now every night with dinner and it's helped tremendously. I didn't drink it for a few days and I was so swollen at the end of the day.

Golden Milk Recipe
4 Tablespoons Organic Tumeric
1 tsp. Black Pepper
1 Tablespoon Ginger
1 Tablespoon Cinnamon
1/2 tsp. Cardamom
1/2 tsp. Clove
1 Cup Milk or Milk Alternative
Sweetener to taste - optional

Mix all the ingredients in a jar. Use 1 tsp. of the mix per cup of milk. I like to use maple syrup as my sweetener and I mix it with the power to make sure they are all combined. It makes it mix into the milk better. Warm the milk on the stove and pour over the mixture while stirring. You can enjoy this cold by just pouring your cold milk over the mixture while stirring. I usually enjoy mine cold unless I am getting ready for bed, then I will make it warm. It's super relaxing when warm! If you make this be sure to tag me on social media.
